精研黃膽兒童病因,有效減少膽道閉鎖術後之併發症,並提高長期無黃疸存活率。  

  本科三位主治醫師,在施行葛西氏手術(Kasai operation),以治療膽道閉鎖上,有非常良好的成績,至少80%以上病人,黃疸消褪,其中長期無黃疸存活的病例,目前佔約一半。因膽道閉鎖為兒童肝硬化需換肝之主要病源。病患在沒有黃疸下存活的比率越高,將來需換肝的比率就越低。

  另外為明瞭膽道閉鎖患者,術後容易發生膽管炎,並使肝硬化加速的成因,本科過去投注心力,在這方面的研究,並有非常好的成果發表。目前在使用DNA微陣列(DNA microarray)探討肝硬化的成因。
